Miami-Dade County, FL (September 12, 2026) – A 10-year-old girl died on Thursday, September 10, after an e-bike carrying her and another child was struck by a hit-and-run driver near NW 117th Street and NW 7th Avenue.
The collision happened Wednesday night, September 9, in Miami-Dade County. A boy who was riding with the girl suffered critical injuries and remains hospitalized. Witnesses said the driver was making a left turn when the children were struck. The driver reportedly stopped a short distance away, looked toward the children in the roadway, and then fled the scene. Authorities continue to search for the driver involved in the fatal hit-and-run.
Our condolences go out to the girl’s family and loved ones, and our thoughts are with the injured boy.
E-Bike and Child Safety
Children riding e-bikes should use designated bike paths or lanes when available and follow traffic signals and roadway rules. Wearing a properly fitted helmet can also help reduce the risk of serious head injuries during a collision.
Drivers should watch carefully for bicycles and e-bikes near intersections, especially when making turns. Checking blind spots and yielding when required can give riders more time to move safely through an intersection.
