Bakersfield, CA (August 30, 2026) – Three people were killed, and several others were injured in an early morning head-on collision on Copus Road near Old River Road in the Lakeview area. The crash was reported at approximately 5:22 a.m. on Friday, August 28.
A gray Nissan Sentra and a blue minivan were involved in the collision. Both vehicles came to rest in the roadway, blocking traffic in both directions. The California Highway Patrol later indicated that an unsafe lane change was involved, although investigators had not determined which vehicle made the maneuver.
Authorities responded to the scene, and tow services were requested to remove the damaged vehicles. The Kern County coroner was also notified following the crash. At least three additional people were transported to hospitals with injuries, including some reported to be serious.
