Topeka, KS (July 2, 2026) – One person lost their life, and two others were hurt in a head-on collision along U.S. 24 north of Topeka on Wednesday afternoon, July 1.
The crash happened shortly before 4:30 p.m. near Huxman Rd. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, two vehicles were involved after one vehicle attempted to pass traffic while traveling eastbound and entered the westbound lane. A westbound driver swerved in an effort to avoid the oncoming vehicle, but the two vehicles struck each other.
Dakota Bacon, 28, the driver of the westbound vehicle, died at the scene. A passenger riding with Bacon was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The other driver was also hospitalized with minor injuries. The cause of the collision remains under review as investigators continue gathering evidence.
