Yermo, CA (July 8, 2026) – One person was killed in a two-vehicle collision on Sunday afternoon, July 5, on northbound I-15 just south of Harvard Rd near Yermo.

According to preliminary reports, the crash was reported shortly after 12:10 p.m. and involved a gray SUV and a silver Nissan sedan. Early dispatch information indicated that a person in the back seat of the Nissan was possibly injured and trapped after the doors became stuck.

Emergency units worked at the site while several lanes were blocked to allow medical care and recovery operations. Around 1:00 p.m., one person was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not been released, and no additional information about the others involved was immediately available. The cause of the collision remains under investigation, and additional details are expected as more information is confirmed.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the person who lost their life.

Why Traffic Delays Can Last Hours After a Fatal Highway Crash

Major highway collisions may lead to lengthy traffic backups because emergency crews must complete several tasks before lanes can safely reopen. Medical care for those involved is the priority, followed by documenting the roadway, removing damaged vehicles, and clearing debris that could create additional hazards for passing drivers.

In fatal crashes, specialized personnel may also be required before vehicles can be moved, which can extend closures. Traffic control measures, including lane reductions or temporary stops in both directions, are sometimes used to protect workers and allow aircraft or other resources to operate safely if needed. Even after damaged vehicles are removed, crews may inspect the pavement and guardrails to ensure the highway is safe for normal travel before all lanes reopen.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.
