Fayetteville, NC (February 21, 2026) – A 25-year-old motorcyclist was killed late Friday night, February 20, in a crash at the intersection of Ramsey Street and Fernwood Drive. The collision occurred around 10:15 p.m. and involved a Nissan Altima and a motorcycle.
Authorities said Ean Alexander Gaskins was riding south on Ramsey Street with a green light when a Nissan traveling north turned left onto Fernwood Drive. The vehicle entered Gaskins’ path, leading to the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials said the Nissan left the area after the collision. The vehicle was later found abandoned less than half a mile from the intersection. On Saturday morning, police identified and located the driver, 43-year-old Roberto Coton Jr., who was taken into custody.
Coton faces charges including felony death by motor vehicle, felony hit and run, driving under the influence, failure to yield, operating a vehicle with no insurance, and expired registration and inspection. He is being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center.
The incident remains under review by authorities.
Our condolences go out to the victim’s family and loved ones.
How Left-Turn Collisions Often Lead to Serious Motorcycle Crashes
Left-turn crashes are one of the most common causes of deadly motorcycle collisions. When a driver turns across oncoming traffic, misjudging distance or speed can lead to a direct impact. Motorcycles are smaller and less visible than passenger vehicles, which increases the risk in busy intersections.
Riders traveling straight through an intersection with a green light may have little time to react if a vehicle suddenly turns in front of them. Unlike car drivers, motorcyclists do not have the protection of airbags or a metal frame.
Traffic safety officials stress the need for drivers to yield properly when turning left and to look carefully for motorcycles before proceeding. Extra caution at intersections can help reduce the likelihood of devastating outcomes.
