Round Lake Beach, IL (May 28, 2026) – A firefighter and a resident were both hurt in a house fire late Wednesday night on the 1100 block of Hillwood Circle. Emergency units were called to the one-story, single-family home at 9:20 p.m.
Fire and smoke were visible when responders arrived, and it took approximately 15 minutes to bring the fire under control. Multiple pets were also rescued from the home during the operation.
Both the resident and the firefighter had minor injuries that were treated at the scene. Neither required a hospital visit.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and the matter remains under active review. We are glad both those hurt are expected to be OK, and we hope they have a smooth recovery.
What Factors Are Typically Reviewed After a Residential House Fire in Illinois?
When a house fire occurs, investigators look at several things to determine how and where it started. The point of origin is usually identified first, followed by a review of potential ignition sources such as electrical wiring, heating equipment, or open flames. In Illinois, local fire codes require single-family homes to meet certain safety standards, and whether those were in place can be part of the review.
Firefighter injuries, even minor ones, are also documented carefully. Departments track how personnel were hurt and under what conditions, since that information helps improve safety practices over time. When pets are present in a burning home, their rescue adds complexity to an already fast-moving operation, requiring crews to account for additional occupants while managing the fire itself.
