Why Can Two-Vehicle Intersection Crashes Involve Several Patients?
A collision between two vehicles can affect multiple occupants at once, particularly when both vehicles are carrying passengers.
At intersections, turning, crossing, and through traffic can create impacts from different angles, which may affect occupants differently depending on where they are seated.
Vehicle speed, impact direction, restraint use, seating position, and the number of occupants can all influence how many people need evaluation. Emergency crews may assess several patients even when the extent of their injuries is not immediately clear.
