Pismo Beach, CA (September 2, 2026) – Emergency crews responded on Monday afternoon, August 31, to a five-vehicle crash on southbound U.S. 101 near the Price Street on-ramp in Pismo Beach.

According to the California Highway Patrol incident log, the collision was reported at approximately 3:00 p.m. A black Toyota RAV4 was reported to be blocking the first lane and leaking an unknown fluid.

CHP later documented major front-end damage to the Toyota and a white Dodge Charger, along with front-end damage to a silver Range Rover. One report also noted that a pregnant woman was inside another vehicle and requested medics.

Traffic was backing up north of Price Street, and responders reported that access to the scene could be difficult because of nearby Caltrans closures. Tow trucks were requested for several vehicles.

The collision is still under investigation. We hope everyone involved recovers fully.

How Lane Blockages Can Create Major Freeway Delays

A collision involving several vehicles can quickly block travel lanes and force approaching drivers to slow or merge around the scene.

Damaged vehicles, fluid leaks, medical evaluations, and towing operations can all require additional roadway space, while existing construction or lane restrictions may make it harder for emergency crews to reach the crash.

Traffic volume, lane blockage, vehicle damage, nearby road work, and the number of vehicles involved can all affect the length and severity of delays. Multi-vehicle crashes can therefore create both immediate safety concerns and significant congestion for surrounding traffic.
