Mountain Iron, MN (June 25, 2026) – Four people were hurt in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Hwy 169 and Rock Ridge Dr in Mountain Iron on Tuesday, June 23.

According to reports, a 2024 Ford Bronco was attempting to turn left at the intersection when it collided with a 2024 Ford F-350 pickup truck traveling straight through the intersection. The roadway was reported to be dry at the time.

Terrence Cleves Jackson, 80, of Winton, was driving the Bronco. His passenger, Anne Elizabeth Jackson, 78, also of Winton, was riding in the vehicle. Both were reported to have non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Essentia Virginia for evaluation.

The pickup was driven by Barbara Jean Hegfors, 77, of Ely. Her passenger, Phillip Rodman Hegfors, 83, of Ely, was also involved. Both sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the same medical facility. Airbags deployed in both vehicles, and all occupants were reported to have been wearing seat belts. Investigators are continuing to review the factors that led to the wreck.

We wish everyone involved a full and timely recovery.

Why Intersections Are Common Sites for Traffic Collisions

Intersections bring together vehicles traveling in different directions, which can increase the chance of a traffic collision when drivers misjudge speed, distance, or right-of-way. Left-turn movements frequently require drivers to cross one or more lanes of oncoming traffic, creating additional points where vehicles may come into contact.

Many modern vehicles include safety features such as airbags, seat belts, and advanced driver-assistance systems designed to reduce the severity of injuries. Even so, people involved in intersection-related crashes are usually evaluated by medical professionals because some symptoms may not appear immediately. Investigators frequently review vehicle positions, traffic controls, driver statements, and roadway conditions to better determine how the collision occurred. These details can help provide a clearer picture of the sequence of actions leading up to the crash.
