Graves Co., KY (June 25, 2026) – Two people were hurt on Wednesday morning, June 24, after a two-vehicle accident on State Line Road near the Kentucky-Tennessee line. The crash happened after 7:30 a.m. near 11210 State Line Road.
Deputies said a 19-year-old man from Dresden, Tennessee, was driving a passenger car west on State Line Road. A garbage truck was stopped near the address with its emergency lights on.
The car hit the rear of the garbage truck as the 31-year-old Mayfield man driving it was exiting the truck. Both people were injured.
The 19-year-old was flown to a hospital in Nashville for treatment. The garbage truck driver was taken to a Graves County hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The cause of the collision is still under review. We hope both injured people receive proper care and make a full recovery.
Why Stopped Work Trucks Can Create Roadside Risks
Stopped work trucks can create hazards when they are close to moving traffic. Even with emergency lights on, drivers may need extra time to notice the vehicle, slow down, and move around it safely.
Garbage trucks often stop along roads while workers enter or exit the vehicle. This can place people near traffic lanes, especially on rural roads or roads without wide shoulders.
Rear-end crashes can cause serious injuries because the force may come suddenly. The danger can be greater when one vehicle is stopped, and another is still moving. Investigators may review lighting, vehicle position, road conditions, and driver actions before more details are confirmed.
