Four Oaks, NC (May 17, 2026) – A 72-year-old Raleigh man was injured in a hit-and-run crash Saturday evening on Interstate 95 in Four Oaks.
Emergency units responded around 6:40 p.m. on Saturday, to the northbound lanes of I-95 after reports of a collision involving a passenger vehicle and a tractor trailer. Investigators said the man was driving a 2005 Toyota when the tractor trailer struck the back left corner of the vehicle.
The impact forced the Toyota off the roadway, through a fence, and into a ditch near the intersection of Highway 96 and Brewer Road, close to Ashley Furniture. Officials stated that the tractor trailer driver left the scene following the crash.
The Toyota driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to WakeMed for treatment.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
Hit-and-Run Interstate Crashes Can Leave Drivers Vulnerable
Hit-and-run crashes on interstates can become especially dangerous when one vehicle leaves the roadway after impact. High speeds and heavy traffic often reduce the amount of time drivers have to regain control once a collision occurs.
When a vehicle is forced into a ditch or off-road area, emergency responders may need additional time to safely reach the injured driver and assess damage. Crashes involving tractor trailers can also produce significant force because of the size and weight difference between vehicles.
Investigators often review roadway debris, vehicle damage, and nearby surveillance footage to help identify vehicles that leave the scene. Interstate exits, nearby businesses, and traffic cameras may also provide useful information during a hit-and-run investigation.
