Why Head-On Collisions on Rural Highways Are Often Severe
Head-on crashes on rural highways frequently lead to serious or fatal injuries because vehicles are often traveling at higher speeds with limited separation between opposing lanes. When two vehicles collide directly, the force of impact can cause extensive damage in a short amount of time.
Investigators typically review lane positioning, roadway markings, and tire evidence to determine how a vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic. Curves, visibility conditions, and driver reaction time may also be examined during the investigation.
Emergency response in rural areas can also involve air medical transport for severe injuries. Crash reconstruction teams often use vehicle damage patterns and roadway evidence to better understand the sequence of events leading up to the collision.
