Fresno, CA (January 19, 2026) – A deadly collision claimed the life of a pickup truck driver early Sunday morning in Fresno, after a crash involving a semi-truck amid dense fog along Clovis Avenue, just south of Golden State Boulevard.
Fresno police responded to the scene shortly after 7:30 a.m. According to investigators, a 40-year-old man driving a 2021 Freightliner semi-truck was traveling northbound on Clovis Ave when he attempted to execute a U-turn. During the maneuver, a southbound 2003 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck collided with the trailer of the semi.
The violent impact left the pickup wedged beneath the semi’s trailer. Within moments, the smaller vehicle became engulfed in flames. Emergency crews arrived quickly, but despite their efforts, the driver of the pickup truck was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released.
The driver of the semi-truck was not injured and remained at the scene. Authorities noted that the thick fog significantly reduced visibility in the area at the time of the crash, contributing to the collision. At this stage of the investigation, officials do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors.
The Clovis Avenue was temporarily closed in the area as crews worked to clear the wreckage and investigators documented the scene.
Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones of the driver who lost their life in this devastating incident.
