Fresno, CA (January 9, 2026) – A serious multi-vehicle collision involving a Fresno Area Express (FAX) bus left six individuals hospitalized on Wednesday morning after a driver reportedly ran a red light at a busy intersection.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:15 a.m. at the intersection of Shields Avenue and First Street. According to Fresno police, the FAX bus was heading northbound on First Street when a westbound vehicle on Shields Avenue disregarded a red traffic signal and crashed into the bus. The force of the impact sent the vehicle spinning into another car already in the intersection, compounding the damage and injuries.
Paramedics and fire personnel responded swiftly to the scene, where four bus passengers and the drivers of both cars were treated for various injuries. All six were subsequently transported to local hospitals for further evaluation and care. The exact nature of their injuries has not been disclosed, but none were reported to be life-threatening at the time of the report.
Significant damage to the vehicles involved prompted temporary closures in the area as authorities worked to assess the scene and clear the wreckage.
