How Lane Departures Can Lead to Serious Crashes
Crashes often occur when a vehicle crosses into an opposing lane of traffic. When this happens, drivers traveling in the correct direction may have very little time to react, especially on roads without physical barriers.
Even when a driver attempts to brake or steer away, the short distance between vehicles can make it difficult to avoid impact. Head-on or near head-on collisions are more likely in these situations and can result in serious injuries.
Road design, speed, and driver behavior all affect how these incidents unfold. Staying within lane markings and maintaining awareness of surrounding traffic can help reduce the risk of this type of crash.
