Why Multi-Vehicle Crashes on Busy Highways Can Lead to Serious Injuries
Multi-vehicle crashes often happen on heavily traveled highways where traffic signals, sudden stops, or limited reaction time create dangerous conditions. Large vehicles, including tractor-trailers, may need a much longer distance to slow down, especially during periods of heavy traffic.
Chain-reaction accidents can also increase the risk of injuries because several vehicles may be struck within seconds. Occupants in stopped or slow-moving cars are especially vulnerable when another vehicle approaches at highway speed. In many cases, emergency crews must close lanes for hours while damaged vehicles are removed and the roadway is cleared.
Medical evaluations after these crashes may include checks for head, neck, or back injuries, even when symptoms do not appear immediately. Vehicle damage, skid marks, and traffic signal timing are also commonly reviewed to help piece together how the collision unfolded.
