What Happens to the Body During a Vehicle Ejection in California Crashes
Being thrown from a vehicle during a crash is one of the most dangerous outcomes in any traffic accident. When a person is ejected, they lose the protection that the vehicle’s frame, airbags, and seatbelt would otherwise provide. The risk of severe injury or death rises sharply in these situations, regardless of the speed involved.
In California, seatbelt use is required for all occupants by law. Research consistently shows that properly worn seatbelts dramatically reduce the chance of ejection in a crash. Intersection accidents, where sudden lateral forces are common, are among the scenarios where an unbelted occupant is most likely to be thrown from the vehicle upon impact.
