Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
Our thoughts are with those affected as they continue to recover.
Why Do Multi-Vehicle Crashes Lead to Major Traffic Backups?
Crashes involving many vehicles often block several lanes at once, making it difficult for traffic to move through the area. Even a single disabled vehicle can slow traffic, but large incidents can bring it to a complete stop.
When lanes are closed, drivers are forced to merge into fewer open spaces, which creates congestion. Emergency crews also need room to assist those involved and clear damaged vehicles.
Other factors, such as debris on the road or reduced visibility, can add to delays. In some cases, backups may stretch for miles until the scene is fully cleared and normal traffic flow can resume.
