Gwinnett Co., GA (May 14, 2026) – A motorcyclist was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Stone Mountain Highway in Gwinnett County early Thursday morning.
The crash happened on Thursday, May 14, when a driver turning right from Puckett Road onto westbound Stone Mountain Highway crossed all three lanes of traffic and struck a motorcycle traveling westbound. The force of the collision pushed the motorcycle into a raised concrete median, throwing the rider from the bike.
The motorcyclist landed in the far-left eastbound lane and was struck by a second vehicle traveling in that direction. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the motorcyclist has not been released.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as they become available. Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the rider who died.
How Do Multi-Lane Crossing Crashes Happen on Georgia State Highways?
Multi-lane state highways in Georgia present a real challenge for drivers making turns from side streets. When a vehicle exits a smaller road and must cross several lanes to reach the correct travel direction, even a brief misjudgment about traffic speed or spacing can lead to a serious collision. Motorcycles are particularly at risk in these situations because they are harder to see and offer no protective shell around the rider.
Being thrown from a motorcycle — known as an ejection — dramatically increases the chance of a fatal outcome. Once a rider leaves the bike, they have no protection against secondary impacts with other vehicles, medians, or road surfaces. Georgia roadways with concrete medians and multiple lanes in both directions can turn a single crash event into a chain of impacts within seconds, leaving little time for other drivers to react.
