Clermont, FL (August 17, 2026) – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that killed a 31-year-old Haines City man on Saturday morning, August 15, on U.S. 27 in Lake County. He was struck by a car while lying in the roadway around 6:39 a.m. south of Cagan Crossings Boulevard.
A witness told troopers the man had been walking in the left-turn lane before entering the northbound inside lane. He then lay down in the path of a northbound 2015 Kia Forte. The Kia struck the man with its undercarriage. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The 69-year-old Clermont man driving the Kia was not injured and remained at the location.
