How Can Fog Contribute to Early Morning Crashes?
Dense fog can reduce visibility and make it harder for drivers to see other vehicles, traffic signs, or intersections. In freezing fog conditions, moisture in the air can also create slick surfaces on roadways.
When visibility drops, drivers may not notice another vehicle slowing or stopping ahead. Reduced sight distance can increase the risk of head-on or front-end collisions.
Intersections and rural roads can be especially hazardous in fog. Slower speeds and extra following distance can help reduce the chance of a crash during low-visibility conditions.
