Steilacoom, WA (June 15, 2026) – Washington State Patrol is investigating a head-on collision that left three people seriously injured near Steilacoom.
It was reported that the crash occurred around 10 a.m. on Sunday, June 13, at the intersection of SR 3 and Homestead Drive. Investigators said a 70-year-old driver was attempting to turn left onto SR 3 when a vehicle carrying two 19-year-old men approached the intersection.
Troopers reported that the second driver swerved to avoid the turning vehicle, but the two vehicles collided head-on. The crash partially blocked northbound traffic while emergency units responded to the scene and cleared the roadway.
All three people involved in the collision were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries. The accident is still being investigated by officials. We wish all those injured a speedy recovery.
Why Left-Turn Collisions Tend to Lead to Serious Injuries
Left-turn crashes are among the more common types of intersection collisions because they involve vehicles crossing the path of oncoming traffic. When a turning driver misjudges the speed or distance of an approaching vehicle, both drivers may have limited time to react before impact.
Head-on collisions can be particularly severe because the impact force is concentrated at the front of both vehicles. Even when drivers attempt evasive maneuvers, the closing speed between vehicles can result in significant damage and serious injuries. Investigators reviewing these crashes often examine vehicle movements, sight lines, traffic conditions, and driver actions to determine how the collision occurred and whether any contributing factors were present.
