Pembroke Pines, FL (June 14, 2026) – Four people were injured on Saturday, June 13, after a helicopter crashed during departure at North Perry Airport in Pembroke Pines.
According to fire rescue officials, emergency units responded to reports of a helicopter crash at the airport and found a Robinson R44 with moderate damage. Officials said all four occupants were already out of the aircraft when crews arrived at the scene.
Investigators said the helicopter lifted off and reached an estimated 20 to 30 feet before it tipped over, rolled, and struck a parked airplane on the ground. Witnesses at the airport described seeing the aircraft lose stability shortly after takeoff before the crash occurred.
All four people involved were transported to Memorial Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and were reported to be in stable condition. Airport fire crews, along with local police, assisted at the scene.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash. Our thoughts go out to those injured in the incident and their families.
Why Helicopter Accidents During Takeoff Can Occur
Helicopter takeoffs require precise control and balance, especially during the initial lift-off phase when the aircraft is close to the ground. Even small changes in wind conditions, weight distribution, or mechanical performance can affect stability.
Accidents during takeoff may involve loss of control, unexpected shifts in balance, or contact with nearby objects on the ground. In busy airport environments, parked aircraft, wind conditions, and limited altitude can increase the risk of secondary impacts if a helicopter becomes unstable. Investigations typically review flight data, maintenance records, and pilot actions to better understand what led to the incident.
