Henrico, VA (May 16, 2026) – A 74-year-old man died after being struck by a vehicle on Friday afternoon while crossing Staples Mill Road in Henrico.
Emergency units responded just after 5:00 p.m. on May 15 to the intersection of Staples Mill Road and Libbie Mill East Boulevard after reports of a pedestrian crash. Crews arrived and found an adult male suffering from severe injuries.
The victim, identified as Christopher L. Yates, was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said the driver was traveling east on Staples Mill Road when the vehicle struck Yates after he stepped into the roadway.
Officials noted that the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Police also stated that Yates appeared to be part of a nearby gathering involving other pedestrians.
