Frequently Asked Questions
Why is distracted driving considered such a serious risk on freeways?
Even a glance away from the road at freeway speed covers a long distance blind, cutting the time a driver has to react to slowing or stopped traffic ahead.
How do conditions like rain or nighttime visibility factor into crashes like this one?
Wet pavement, glare, and low light can all reduce how quickly a driver spots trouble and how well a vehicle grips the road, making rear-end and lane-change crashes more likely.
What should someone do right after being in a car accident?
Move to a safe spot if possible, check for injuries, call 911, and exchange information with other drivers while waiting for police or EMS to arrive.
Where do most traffic crashes happen?
Many crashes cluster at highway merge points, off-ramps, and intersections, where vehicles are changing speed or lane position.
