Dixon, IL (June 24, 2026) – A resident suffered serious injuries following a house explosion and fire on Monday morning in Dixon that also prompted the evacuation of an entire neighborhood.
According to officials, firefighters were dispatched at approximately 6 a.m. on June 22 to a residence in the 1500 block of Estates Road after reports of an explosion followed by a structure fire. When crews arrived, they found the home heavily damaged and engulfed in flames.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and located one resident outside the home suffering from burns to his face and legs. Emergency personnel treated the victim at the scene before he was airlifted to a hospital in Rockford for further medical care.
During the response, investigators detected gas readings in nearby homes and elsewhere along the street. As a precaution, officials evacuated the surrounding neighborhood, affecting approximately 400 residents. Reagan Middle School was opened as a temporary shelter, housing about 50 displaced residents while emergency crews continued their work.
City officials later indicated that residents could be allowed to return to their homes once conditions were determined to be safe. However, the incident remains under investigation.
