How Crosswalk Signals and Right-of-Way Affect Pedestrian Safety
Crosswalks help guide people across busy streets, but signals and traffic lights determine who has the right of way. When traffic has a green light, vehicles may move forward, and pedestrians are usually expected to wait for a walk signal before crossing. Ignoring these signals can increase the risk of a crash, especially on multilane roads.
Visibility is another factor that affects safety. Drivers may have limited time to react if someone suddenly enters the roadway. Multilane roads can also make it harder for drivers in one lane to see pedestrians crossing ahead.
Air transport to a hospital may be used even when injuries appear minor. This can help ensure quick evaluation and provide access to specialized care if needed.
