Indianapolis, IN (January 13, 2026) – A 59-year-old woman was hospitalized after being hit by a vehicle at the intersection of East 10th St and North Rural St on January 12. The incident occurred shortly before 6:00 p.m. in the city’s Near Eastside neighborhood, prompting a swift response from Engine 27, EMS 93, and other emergency units.
Witnesses reported seeing the woman struck by a vehicle traveling at a low rate of speed—approximately 5 mph. The impact caused her to fall, spin, and strike her head on the pavement. First responders noted a small laceration above her left eye and signs of disorientation. The victim was conscious and breathing when medics arrived, with a Glasgow Coma Scale score of 15 and blood pressure recorded at 180/94.
She was stabilized with a cervical collar at the scene before being transported to Eskenazi Hospital for further evaluation. Additional factors included the presence of alcohol and reported dizziness following the fall.
Westbound lanes of E 10th St were temporarily closed for 20 to 30 minutes while medics attended to the victim and officers secured the area.
Local authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the incident, including whether the driver remained at the scene and what factors contributed to the collision.
