How Large Vehicle Crashes Impact Freeway Traffic
Crashes involving big rigs and RVs can quickly block multiple lanes due to the size and weight of the vehicles. Removing large vehicles often requires specialized equipment, which can prolong lane closures.
Even minor injuries can occur because the impact force from large vehicles is significant. Traffic is often diverted to nearby exits, causing major delays for commuters. Early-morning crashes can pose additional challenges due to limited visibility and high-speed traffic during peak commute times.
