How U-Turn Crashes Happen on Rural Roads in Missouri
U-turns on rural and two-lane roads carry a higher risk than many drivers expect. On roads with limited sight lines or higher speed limits, a vehicle making a U-turn can appear in traffic too quickly for oncoming drivers to react in time. This type of maneuver is especially risky when traffic is moving at highway speeds and there is little warning before the turn begins.
Missouri roadways outside of urban areas often lack dedicated turning lanes or clear signage about where U-turns are permitted. Drivers on these roads may underestimate how much space and time is needed to complete a safe turn. Passengers in a vehicle involved in this kind of crash can suffer serious harm even when seat belts are worn.
