What Investigators Review After Bicycle Crashes at Stop-Controlled Intersections
Bicycle crashes at stop-controlled intersections are often reviewed by examining right-of-way movement and visibility from each direction. Investigators commonly assess whether drivers and cyclists had enough time to react before entering the shared crossing path.
Traffic signs, roadway markings, and vehicle speed may also be evaluated during the review process. In many cases, physical evidence such as debris placement and vehicle damage helps establish how the collision unfolded.
Cyclists can be more difficult for drivers to see at intersections, particularly when vehicles approach from side streets or crossing points. Investigators may also consider sightlines, roadway design, and environmental conditions when reconstructing the sequence of events.
