Kanarraville, UT (April 28, 2026) – A series of crashes in a construction zone on northbound I-15 near Kanarraville, Utah, left multiple people hurt and blocked two lanes of traffic on Sunday, April 26.
At least three separate crashes occurred in the construction zone. The first involved a semi-tractor-trailer, which was followed by two additional collisions in the same area. The largest of the three crashes involved eight vehicles.
Three people were taken to local hospitals following the pileup. Two ambulances responded to the scene. Information about the condition of those hurt was not available at the time of this report.
A car also caught fire during the incident. No one was inside the vehicle at the time, and no additional injuries resulted from the fire. The crashes blocked two northbound lanes and caused significant delays on the interstate.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crashes, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
Our thoughts are with those hurt as they receive medical care.
Why Construction Zone Crashes on Utah Interstates Can Escalate Quickly
Construction zones on busy interstates like I-15 create conditions where a single crash can quickly trigger additional collisions. Reduced lane widths, lower speed limits, and unexpected equipment or barriers can cause drivers to brake suddenly, leaving little time for the vehicles behind to react. When a large vehicle like a semi-truck is involved in the first impact, it can block visibility and leave other drivers with almost no warning.
Multi-car pileups in work zones are a serious and recurring issue across Utah, particularly on high-traffic stretches of I-15. The combination of congested lanes, uneven surfaces, and distracted driving in these areas heightens the risk for everyone passing through. Fires can also break out when vehicles sustain heavy damage, adding another layer of danger for first responders and anyone still near the scene.
