Kapalua, HI (April 27, 2026) – A 76-year-old man died after a structure fire at a condominium in Kapalua on Friday, April 24. The fire was reported at 2:41 p.m. at 100 Ridge Road.

Emergency units responded to a second-floor condo and found the unit heavily involved in fire. Crews extended hose lines, brought the fire under control, and stopped it from spreading to nearby units.

The fire was contained to the affected unit. The man who lived there was pronounced dead at the scene, and his identity was withheld pending family notification.

The fire was under control by 2:56 p.m. and fully extinguished by 5:18 p.m. About 40% of the approximately 1,200-square-foot condo was damaged, with estimated structural damage listed at $1 million.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined and under investigation. Our condolences go out to the victim’s loved ones.

How Condo Fires Can Spread in Multi-Unit Buildings

Condo fires can become dangerous quickly because units often share walls, ceilings, and utility spaces. Smoke and heat may spread beyond the first affected area, even when the flames remain within one unit.

Second-floor fires can also create added challenges. Crews may need ladders, hose lines, and interior access to reach the fire and protect nearby homes. Smoke conditions can make entry more difficult.

Damage estimates after a condo fire may include burned materials, smoke damage, water damage, and structural repairs. Even when the fire does not spread to nearby units, the affected space may need major cleanup before it can be used again.
