Why Are Motorcycle Rear-End Crashes on Missouri Interstates So Dangerous?
Rear-end crashes involving motorcycles tend to produce more serious outcomes than those between two passenger vehicles. A motorcycle offers almost no protection in a collision, which means the rider and any passenger absorb much of the force directly. Even at moderate highway speeds, this type of impact can cause significant harm.
On interstates like I-70 in the Kansas City area, traffic can slow suddenly due to congestion, lane changes, or road conditions. Motorcycles require more distance to stop than many riders expect, and following too closely in fast-moving traffic leaves very little margin for error. This is especially true during evening hours when visibility and reaction time can be affected by changing light conditions.
