Knoxville, TN (January 19, 2026) – A devastating wrong-way crash on I-640 West near the Broadway exit claimed the life of a motorcyclist Sunday night and led to multiple charges against the alleged driver responsible.
The Knoxville Police Department responded to the collision around 7:15 p.m. on January 18. According to officials, a car had struck the guardrail and began traveling in the wrong direction on I-640 West before crashing head-on into a motorcycle that was traveling in the correct westbound lane. The motorcyclist was thrown from the bike and tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the crash, the individuals inside the car fled on foot. Officers were able to track them to a residence on Old Broadway, where they took the suspects into custody.
Court records confirm that Eric Ramon Alcantara-Guevara was arrested in connection with the incident. Investigators say a passenger in the vehicle identified Alcantara-Guevara as the driver and stated he had lost control and hit a guardrail before entering the wrong side of the highway. The driver later admitted to leaving the scene without providing aid to the victim.
Alcantara-Guevara now faces multiple felony charges, including vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, and leaving the scene of a fatal crash.
