What Can Make Multi-Vehicle Crashes More Severe on Interstates?
Crashes involving multiple vehicles on interstates can lead to serious outcomes due to higher travel speeds. When several vehicles are involved, the force of repeated impacts can increase the level of damage.
Traffic density also plays a role. Vehicles traveling close together may not have enough time to stop when a crash begins, leading to additional collisions.
Nighttime conditions can make these situations more dangerous. Reduced visibility may limit how quickly drivers can see hazards ahead and react.
Road design and traffic flow can also affect how these crashes unfold. Long stretches of highway at steady speeds can quickly become hazardous when a vehicle loses control or slows unexpectedly.
