Sacramento, CA (September 6, 2026) – A silver Toyota Camry and a green Toyota RAV4 were involved in a collision on the southbound State Route 99 off-ramp at Cosumnes River Boulevard at about 10:58 a.m. on Friday, September 4.
Both vehicles were initially pulled to the right side of the off-ramp. A later CHP entry noted an obstruction along the left shoulder.
The call was updated at about 11:10 a.m. to indicate minor injuries.
Authorities continue investigating the crash. We hope anyone injured receives the care and support needed for a comfortable recovery.
Off-Ramp Collisions Can Disrupt Traffic Beyond the Mainline
Freeway off-ramps compress traffic into a narrower roadway as drivers slow and prepare to enter local streets. A disabled vehicle along either shoulder can narrow that space and leave motorists with fewer options for safely moving around it.
Speed differences may also become more noticeable near the end of a ramp. Some drivers begin braking early, while others continue at higher speeds before slowing, creating changing gaps between vehicles over a short distance.
Even when vehicles are moved out of active lanes, towing or medical operations can affect traffic flow. Curves, shoulder width, nearby signals, and the vehicles’ final positions can influence how much space remains available. Extra following distance can give drivers more time to react when movement along an off-ramp suddenly slows.
