How Limited Reaction Time Can Increase Crash Severity
Intersections bring together vehicles traveling in different directions, creating potential points of conflict as drivers turn, cross, or enter the roadway.
Even during late-morning hours, traffic may be so heavy that drivers have little time to react when another vehicle enters their path. Frontal, side, and angled impacts can all produce significant forces.
Vehicle speed, impact angle, traffic volume, visibility, and roadway design can affect injury severity. When two vehicles collide at an intersection, emergency crews may also need to manage traffic while evaluating everyone involved.
