Why Are Roadside Workers at Higher Risk of Being Struck?
Roadside workers often operate close to moving traffic. Even with warning signs or cones in place, passing vehicles may travel near active work zones. Early morning hours can increase the danger when visibility is reduced.
Drivers may not always expect to encounter workers on city streets. Distractions, speeding, or sudden lane changes can increase the chance of a crash. In some cases, narrow roadways leave little room for error.
Work zones typically use barriers, reflective gear, and warning lights to improve safety. Slowing down and staying alert near maintenance crews can help reduce the risk of serious injury.
