Why Intersections Are High-Risk Areas for Motorcyclists
Intersections are common sites for motorcycle crashes because vehicles frequently cross paths when turning or entering the road. Drivers may have difficulty seeing smaller motorcycles, especially when multiple lanes or traffic signals are involved.
Motorcycle riders are particularly vulnerable because they lack the protective structure of passenger vehicles. Even a low-speed collision can cause injuries due to the rider’s exposed position.
Maintaining awareness, following traffic signals, and allowing extra space around motorcycles can help reduce the risk of crashes in these areas. Roadway design, visibility, and driver attention all play a role in preventing intersection collisions.
