Why Pedestrian Crashes in Rural Road Areas Often Turn Fatal
Pedestrian crashes on rural or semi-rural roads often carry a high risk of severe injury due to higher vehicle speeds and limited crossing infrastructure. Unlike urban intersections, these areas may have fewer marked crosswalks or lighting.
Drivers may have limited time to react if a pedestrian is crossing outside a designated area or if visibility is reduced by curves or roadside conditions. Even low delays in braking can have serious consequences.
Investigations typically examine roadway design, lighting conditions, and driver awareness to determine how the collision occurred and whether visibility or timing played a role.
