Why Wrong-Way Crashes on Highways Often Result in Fatal Outcomes
Wrong-way crashes are among the most severe types of roadway collisions due to the combined speed of both vehicles involved. When two vehicles travel toward each other in the same lane, the impact force increases significantly.
These incidents often occur on divided highways where access points, ramps, or driver confusion can lead to lane errors. Limited reaction time further reduces each driver’s ability to avoid a collision.
Investigations typically examine roadway design, signage, and driver condition to understand how the wrong-way entry occurred.
