How Do Crashes End Up Involving Homes or Yards?
When vehicles leave the roadway, they can travel into nearby yards or structures, especially if the crash happens at higher speeds or near intersections. Even a slight loss of control can send a vehicle off course.
Large vehicles like garbage trucks carry significant weight, which can increase the force of impact. Once momentum is lost, it may be difficult to stop before reaching nearby property.
Roadside conditions such as curves, landscaping, or limited barriers can also influence how far a vehicle travels after a collision. These factors are often reviewed to understand how a crash reached residential areas.
