Why Overnight Pedestrian Crashes Can Be Fatal
Overnight pedestrian crashes can be especially dangerous because visibility is often reduced. Drivers may have less time to see a person in the roadway, and pedestrians have little protection from the force of a vehicle.
Wide roads and steady traffic can also increase injury risks. A person struck by a car may suffer severe head, chest, or internal injuries. Even one impact can be deadly, especially when the crash happens at roadway speed.
After these crashes, officials often review lighting, vehicle damage, stopping distance, and road conditions. The time of day, weather, and traffic flow may also help explain what happened before impact. These details can provide a clearer picture of the crash sequence.
