The crash involved a Sacramento Regional Transit light rail train, and rail service through the area was temporarily suspended while crews cleared the scene. Service resumed around 7 p.m.
We hope those injured recover fully and quickly.
Why Light Rail Crossing Safety Is Important
Rail crossings require drivers to remain alert because trains cannot stop quickly once they are moving. Warning signals, crossing gates, and other safety devices are designed to give motorists time to stop before entering the tracks.
Collisions between vehicles and trains can result in severe damage because of the size and weight differences between the two. Drivers should avoid entering crossings when warning systems are active and should never attempt to pass around lowered gates. Staying aware near rail lines can help prevent dangerous situations and protect everyone using the roadway and transit system.
