What Is Commonly Reviewed in Bicycle vs. Vehicle Fatal Crashes?
Fatal crashes involving bicycles and motor vehicles are often reviewed carefully due to the vulnerability of cyclists. Investigators typically examine roadway lighting, visibility, and whether the cyclist was traveling along the shoulder or roadway at the time of impact.
Vehicle speed, driver reaction time, and the point of impact are also key factors in understanding how the collision occurred. In early morning crashes, darkness and limited visibility are often considered in the investigation. Evidence such as debris patterns, bicycle damage, and roadway markings can help reconstruct the event. Witness statements and nearby surveillance footage may also provide additional context when available.
