Long Beach, CA (March 15, 2026) – An e-bike rider was hospitalized following a collision with an SUV just after midnight on Sunday, March 15, on Pacific Avenue near Pacific Coast Highway.
The crash occurred as a woman driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer was turning east onto 16th Street from the southbound lane of Pacific Avenue. The e-bike rider, traveling north without headlights, struck the front of the SUV, causing his bike to crumple and become pinned beneath a parked vehicle nearby.
Emergency units transported the man to a hospital, where he is expected to recover. The woman driving the Trailblazer was not hurt and remained at the scene, cooperating with responders. Speed and alcohol do not appear to have contributed to the crash.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
Our thoughts are with those injured as they receive medical care.
Understanding E-Bike Collisions and Safety
E-bike accidents often occur when riders are not easily visible or when they travel at high speeds, especially at night. Headlights and reflective gear can greatly reduce the risk of collisions by improving visibility for both riders and drivers. Intersections are common sites for crashes, as turning vehicles may not see oncoming e-bikes in time to avoid a collision. Even minor impacts can result in serious injuries due to the lack of physical protection for riders. Awareness of traffic rules, riding at safe speeds, and using proper safety equipment can help prevent accidents on busy streets and near highways.
