Why Pedestrian Crashes Often Occur Outside Marked Crosswalks
Pedestrian crashes can happen when people cross roadways outside designated crosswalks. Drivers may not expect to encounter someone in the roadway in these areas, which can reduce reaction time.
Lighting conditions, traffic flow, and road design can also affect visibility. At night, it may be harder for drivers to see pedestrians, especially in poorly lit areas.
Using marked crossings and staying visible can help reduce risks. Drivers can also improve safety by remaining alert and watching for unexpected movement near roadways.
