Frequently Asked Questions
Why are crashes involving three or more vehicles usually harder to sort out than two-car wrecks?
Investigators have to determine the order of impact and how each driver's actions contributed, which usually takes longer when more vehicles and witnesses are involved.
What typically leads to a chain-reaction crash like this one?
These crashes commonly start when one vehicle stops suddenly or is struck from behind, setting off a sequence of impacts among the vehicles behind or around it.
Is there anything drivers can do if traffic ahead suddenly piles up?
Keeping a safe following distance and staying alert to brake lights well ahead gives drivers more time to react before a chain-reaction collision reaches them.
