Frequently Asked Questions
How can drivers reduce the chances of a crash on highway ramps?
Slowing down before merging, checking mirrors and blind spots, and leaving extra space from the vehicle ahead can help drivers react in time on ramps and merge points.
What injuries are common in highway accidents?
Highway crashes commonly cause whiplash, head and neck injuries, broken bones and, in more serious cases, internal injuries, depending on speed and impact.
What usually causes crashes near highway exits and on-ramps?
Sudden braking, merging errors, following too closely and speed differences between ramp and highway traffic are frequent factors in these crashes.
Does speed make a difference in how serious a crash is?
Yes. Higher speeds increase the distance needed to stop and the force of any impact, which generally makes injuries more severe.
